Football in Japan
The national football competition of Japan is called the J League. The first division (J1 League) hosts clubs like Yokohama F. Marinos, FC Tokyo, Gamba Osaka, Sanfrecce Hiroshima, Kawasaki Frontale and Vissel Kobe.
Football is the second most popular sport in the country, after baseball. The national team of Japan was successful in 1992 when they won their first and only Asian Championship. A Japanese player that has gained international fame is Keisuke Honda, who played for the Dutch club Vitesse, CSKA Moscow from Russia and AC Milan from Italy. Japanese football players are generally known for being very technical.
