Football in Sweden

Everyone knows the most famous football player from Sweden: Zlatan Ibrahimović. He started his career at Malmö FF and currently owns Stockholm based club Hammarby IF.

Zlatan is legendary for winning the national championships title with five clubs (Ajax, Internazionale, AC Milan, Barcelona and Paris-Saint Germain). This Swedish football player is also the only one to have scored Champions League goals for six different clubs.

The highest division of football in Sweden is called the Allsvenskan. In this league a total of 16 teams battle it out for the cup, among which Djurgårdens IF, Hammarby IF, AIK Stockholm and IFK Norrköping.

Create your own football tour to Sweden

Although Sweden has a relatively small population, the country has a lot of youth football players. Youth teams from Sweden regularly travel abroad to play in international tournaments, so they are keen on international opposition.

Lots of youth academies can be found in the area around Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. Nicknamed ‘Venice of the North’ because of its many canals, it’s also the most beautiful city in the country.

After a friendly match against a Swedish youth academy, your teammates will surely appreciate a boat tour or a stroll through the historical city centre ‘Gamla Stan’.
